Star Trek

Yesterday I went to watch Star Trek with my dad. Despite working at the theatre for over a year now, this is the first movie I have taken my dad to on a cast pass. I really enjoyed the movie. It had a ton of action, and enough references to the original TV show to keep both old and new fans entertained. And Leonard Nimoy was in it!!! Yay!!! My dad liked it too, which is excellent. I was worried he wouldn't like it, since it was so action-packed and not just space dialogue. But he had a great time too. I'd love to go see it again, I think I will!

On the weekend I also started watching another well known sci-fi title, Battlestar Galactica. So far I've only finished the original mini-series but I plan on watching the rest of the first season within the week. I've also gotten my hands on Firefly, which I will watch once I am done BSG completely. I feel like I need to gain some knowledge of sci-fi, and so I will watch as many titles as I can! Yipee!

Working on Star Trek's opening weekend got me thinking a little bit. Many people came in with huge groups of friends, all going to see Star Trek together. The only person I had to go see Star Trek with was my dad. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad, but I wish I had a big group of friends to do, well, anything with. I feel like I am missing out. Where are these people hiding? The only people I really see outside of school are Aggie, Paul and my parents. I just wish I had a group of friends to go out with, or even just to hang out and someone's house with. I guess that's what university is for, so let's hope I get in! I just want some sci-fi nerds to be friends with, is that really such a tough request?
